My Garage Door, Is it Hurricane Rated? Part 1

I get questions all the time about what is a hurricane rated garage door. What they really want to know, is theirs rated. Or a better question , will the insurance company accept my garage door as rated. If your home was built, in Beaufort County, and after 2005 you should have a rated door. But you will need to prove that to the insurance company. The only way to do this is to have a copy of the manufacturers installation plan and match the door to the plan. You can get a copy of the plan from your contractor, installing company, or off the web. All garage doors that have been tested will have a plan available from the manufacturer or it will be posted on the Florida approval web site. Your make, and modle number will be important, to make sure you get the correct plan. This information is usually found on the side of the door.
All doors that were installed before 2005 are probably not hurricane rated. Some models can be retrofitted and others must be replaced.
